What are you known for?

One of my favorite Bible stories is about David. When Saul asked his servant to bring him a harpist, the servant answers:

“I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a warrior, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence; and the Lord is with him(NRSV, 1 Samuel 16.18).

What a beautiful description! David was a shepherd. He was tending the sheep, but from where he was serving, his testimony was following him. You do not need to be in the spotlight to make the difference! Your testimony speaks for you, from where you are!

Today during corporate Devos, I asked our students two questions:

- How are people describing you?

- How do you want people to describe you?

Now, I ask you the same. How are people describing you? How do you want people to describe you? Are you known by your work ethic? Are you known by your servant heart? Are you known for being prudent in speech, like David? Or are you known for being deceitful… arrogant… harsh?

How can you be more like Jesus? What behaviors do you need to change in order to be called a man/woman of valor? What behaviors do you need to change for people to add to your description: “the Lord is with him/her”?
